Overview

Cynthia E. Organ is a partner in Glaser Weil’s Litigation Department. Cindy has represented clients in state and federal litigation and arbitration in a wide variety of matters, including breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, employment and trade secret actions.

Cindy has experience drafting and arguing law and motion matters, handling discovery disputes, and taking matters to trial in a number of industries, with a particular emphasis on entertainment, consumer products and fashion.

Cindy has a particular depth of experience in:

  • Restraining orders and related complex litigation

While in law school at the University of Southern California, Cindy served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Phillip S. Gutierrez of the United States District Court for the Central District of California and as a content editor of the Southern California Review of Law and Social Justice. After graduating from law school, Cindy served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Chief Justice F. Michael Kruse of the High Court of American Samoa.

Cindy serves on the Board of Governors of the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles Foundation and as the co-chair of the website and social media committee. Cindy is admitted to practice law before all courts in the state of California, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the United States District Court for the Central District of California, the United States District Court for the Southern District of California and in American Samoa.

Results

Cindy’s notable experience includes her representation of:

  • The County of Los Angeles in the successful defense of a first-ever challenge to the County’s Safe Access to Alcohol and Food Establishments (SAAFE) ordinance.
  • IMAX Corporation in an arbitration brought by a former executive claiming entitlement to more than $7 million in commissions.
  • Media firm Infillion (formerly PaeDae, Inc.) in defeating a former employee’s $25+ million claims in a three-year-long legal battle involving arbitration, federal and state court actions, and a Ninth Circuit appeal.
  • The 50% owner of a shoe company in a dispute with the other owner, who is accused of embezzling and stealing more than $2.5 million from the company.
  • An employee in claims against her former employer for wrongful termination, gender discrimination and sexual harassment. The matter evolved from an arbitration proceeding before JAMS into multiple appeals and a writ proceeding currently before the California Court of Appeal, which involves several issues of first impression and is expected to be one of the first cases decided under Cal. Code Civ. Proc. § 1281.98, thereby guiding future litigation under this new employment statute.
  • Individuals closely connected to a major fashion dynasty in an action alleging the defendants’ negligence and failure to stop the sexual assault of a minor; she successfully obtained a jurisdictional dismissal for one client following a successful writ petition and oral argument.
