Overview
Sarah G. Hartman is a Litigation Partner in Glaser Weil’s Newport Beach and Century City offices. She is an experienced trial lawyer who represents clients across a wide range of industries in complex disputes, guiding them from case inception through trial or arbitration and appeal. Sarah’s practice involves a wide range of complex commercial and business disputes—including breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, partnership disputes, fraud, unfair competition, insurance coverage, products liability, employment litigation, class action defense, false advertising and other high-stakes disputes. She also advises and represents clients in entertainment disputes, intellectual property, and health and women’s health technology (“FemTech”) matters. Sarah’s practice also includes representing clients in the hospitality sector, particularly in matters involving the termination of hotel management and franchise agreements.
Sarah has deep experience in intellectual property litigation, including patent, copyright, trademark and trade secret matters. She has represented clients in federal district and appellate courts nationwide, in Section 337 investigations before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), and in appeals from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Her patent litigation experience spans a broad range of technologies, including computer networking, LED lighting, automotive audio systems, mobile applications, map-based communication platforms and internet services.
In addition, Sarah is committed to advancing innovation in women’s health and regularly advises clients in the Health Technology and FemTech space.
She is particularly sought out for:

Prior to joining Glaser Weil, Sarah practiced at leading national and international law firms, where she advanced from associate to partner and handled high-stakes litigation across multiple jurisdictions. Earlier in her career, she served as a Judicial Extern for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, gaining valuable insight into federal judicial processes.
Sarah’s awards and accolades are numerous. She was awarded the “Rising Star” Award at the Los Angeles Times B2B Publishing Orange County Inspirational Women Forum and Leadership Awards, named one of the 50 Most Influential Women in IP by World IP Review, recognized as a Top 25 Media and Entertainment Attorney by Attorney Intel, and nominated for the Los Angeles Business Journal’s Women’s Leadership Awards. Her honors also include recognition by the Best Lawyers in America® in Commercial Litigation and as “One to Watch” in Intellectual Property Litigation, by Super Lawyers as a Southern California Rising Star in commercial and IP litigation, and in several editions of IAM Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Professionals.
Sarah graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern California and earned her J.D., Order of the Coif, from Vanderbilt University Law School, where she served as a managing editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review.
Sarah recently served as the Chair of the Entertainment, Sports and Marketing section of the Orange County Bar Association.

- A tenant in a commercial warehouse lease dispute. After 2.5 years of litigation, prevailed in an arbitration against a landlord seeking more than $12 million in lost rents and tenant improvements, plus attorneys’ fees and costs.*
- A family member in a partnership dispute. Successfully resolved a double derivative action among competing factions of a large family over a manufacturing company and related holdings.*
- A luxury real estate developer in a complex, failed partnership, reaching a favorable resolution for the client.*
- A Singapore company in connection with multimillion dollar theft, which resulted in an arbitration award and judgment for more than double amount stolen.*
- The Defendant in an elder abuse case resulting, ultimately, in summary judgment granted in favor of defendant.*
- An individual alleged of committing elder abuse, in a case ultimately resulting in summary judgment granted in favor of defendant.*
- The owner of a large portfolio of computer networking patents in multiple lawsuits in the Western District of Texas.*
- A founder and CEO of nonprofit animal rights organization in her claim of trademark infringement against a well-funded competitor.*
- A company that develops and sells automotive interface products in its claim of infringement of patents concerning wireless connectivity for audio and multimedia integration systems against the world's largest automotive manufacturers and suppliers.*
- A domestic manufacturer and inventor of technologies relating to LED display panels and LED lights in a patent infringement campaign in the ITC and Eastern District of Texas against mostly foreign competitors.*
- A technology services company and its President in an action against the company's former Vice President of Operations for misappropriation of trade secrets, conversion, breach of fiduciary duty and breach of contract.*
- A software company in its claim of infringement of patents concerning software-enabled functionality of location services against some of the world's largest consumer technology and electronics companies.*
- One of the nation's largest television and radio audience measurement companies in a multimillion-dollar litigation against a famous radio personality and his company, involving claims of fraud, conspiracy, unfair business practices and tortious interference, and counterclaims of conspiracy, tortious interference and unfair business practices.*
- Several major motion picture studios in the successful defense of putative national consumer class action litigations. The cases were won on motions to dismiss.*
- A major country music star and televised shopping network in the successful defense of a litigation asserting Lanham Act claims (trademark infringement and dilution) and unfair competition. The case was won on a motion to dismiss and was covered by Law360.*
- A multinational media conglomerate in an arbitration involving a film financing dispute with a New York hedge fund, which resulted in a favorable settlement for the client.*
- The BVI Liquidator of the Fairfield Funds (the largest feeder funds into the Madoff Ponzi scheme) in the Funds' Chapter 15 case in Bankruptcy Court in New York, including the prosecution of over 300 clawback actions commenced by the foreign liquidator and the Funds against certain of the Funds' redeemers. The clawback actions sought the return to the Funds of over $6 billion in overpaid redemptions.*
- A global corporate apparel manufacturer in defense of a mass tort and products liability litigation, resulting in favorable settlements for the client.*
