Steven P. Basileo has more than 30 years of experience in all aspects of business litigation, including high-stakes antitrust, business tort and contract matters, as well as construction disputes. In the construction industry, he represents developers, owners and contractors in matters involving large-scale commercial and mixed-use projects. He also has extensive experience in real estate valuation matters.

Prior to joining Glaser Weil, Steven gained extensive experience litigating a broad range of intellectual property matters, including patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret and licensing disputes involving a wide range of technologies, including flash memory, dynamic random-access memory (DRAM), semiconductors, processors, field-programmable gate arrays, cell phones, televisions, computer monitors, disk drives, navigation technology, network security protocols, wireless networks, computer peripherals and software codecs.

Results

Steven’s notable experience includes his representation of:

  • The owner of a shopping center in litigation concerning alleged interference with the construction of a fast-food restaurant on a neighboring parcel within a shared shopping center. The court granted summary judgment in favor of the client, followed by a successful motion for attorney’s fees.
  • The Yucaipa Companies in litigation arising out of the attempted purchase of the assets of The Weinstein Company.
  • A former executive of a global payment processing company in pursuing claims for breach of contract arising from the executive’s departure from the company, resulting in a multimillion-dollar settlement.

  • Next Century Partners, a leading real estate company that owns and develops notable resort and hotel properties, in multiple disputes with Webcor and several of its subcontractors concerning the $1.5 billion retrofit of the Century Plaza Hotel and the construction of two new 40-story condo towers.

  • SK hynix, as lead antitrust law strategist and trial team member, in defense of a $12 billion antitrust claim involving an alleged international DRAM price-fixing cartel; obtained a complete defense verdict.
  • Bausch Health (formerly Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Inc.), as lead trial counsel, in arbitration concerning an IP licensing dispute; obtained an eight-figure arbitral award and the dismissal of a counterclaim.
  • Bausch Health (formerly Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Inc.), as second-chair trial counsel, in an international arbitration concerning intellectual property contributed to a public-private joint venture; obtained a nine-figure arbitral award and the dismissal of a nine-figure counterclaim.
  • Advanced Micro Devices in AAA arbitration concerning an eight-figure IP licensing dispute; obtained summary judgment dismissing all claims.
  • IBM in a massive series of patent infringement actions involving 18 patents covering a broad array of disk drive technologies.
  • Samsung in patent infringement actions involving a range of technologies, including network security protocols, navigation software and configurable CPU registers.
  • International Rectifier Corporation in a patent infringement action involving MOSFET technology.
  • Top Victory Electronics in patent infringement actions involving various technologies relating to television and computer monitor chipsets.
  • Belkin Corporation in a patent infringement action involving signaling technology for computer peripherals.
  • An institutional investor in a securities fraud action involving a failed internet startup; obtained a multimillion-dollar settlement.
  • An international bank, as lead counsel, on the appeal of an eight-figure state court award in a breach of contract matter; the judgment was affirmed.
  • An international bank, as lead counsel, in a multimillion-dollar breach of contract action; obtained summary judgment.
