It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our colleague Richard Buckner. Rich was a well-respected litigator and Of Counsel at Glaser Weil for the past eight years, and had recently become a first-time grandfather, a status he proudly proclaimed to all those close to him.
Rich loved going to trial, where his great calm and cross-examination skills shone through. He prepared every single detail and saw to it that trial, what he called the “presentation of undisputed facts in a persuasive manner,” was never a matter of what might happen, but rather what was sure to happen. In that vein, he handled more than twenty trials, arbitrations, and other live, evidentiary proceedings in his years at Glaser Weil, and many more with his prior firm. In addition to his trial practice, Rich briefed and argued appeals involving bankruptcy, interference with prospective economic advantage and contract, insurance, construction, public corruption, and commercial landlord-tenant disputes in Federal and State appellate courts. He was an advocate in the best sense of the word and respected by clients, and the bench and bar, alike.
Rich earned his bachelor’s degree from George Mason University and his law degree from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law. After graduating from law school, Rich served as a law clerk for The Honorable Walter Ely, Judge of the United States Court of Appeal for the Ninth Circuit. Before joining Glaser Weil, Rich practiced at O’Melveny & Myers LLP.
We will miss our colleague greatly.
