Glaser Weil Senior Counsel Richard Reinis was featured in Law360’s recent article, “Minimum Wage Efforts Reach A Crossroads,” discussing the implications of California’s $20 minimum wage for fast food workers. As a member of the California Fast Food Council and a representative voice for franchisors, Reinis offered critical insight into how the wage increase is affecting the industry.

“The fact that on an hourly basis a worker who was previously earning $16 is now making $20 is really not the goal,” Reinis told Law360. “The goal is to increase net take home pay… if in the end, a minimum wage results in a reduction of net take home pay, it’s been self-defeating.”

He also noted the unintended consequences of the new wage floor, including reclassification of managerial roles and the acceleration of automation in fast food operations.
