Media Highlights Glaser Weil’s Representation in High-Profile Childhood Sexual Assault Case Involving Former Los Angeles Laker
Glaser Weil is representing Hayley Dylan in a lawsuit stemming from a 1987 sexual assault that took place at Campbell Hall School, a private K–12 institution in Los Angeles. The alleged perpetrator is former Los Angeles Lakers player Byron Scott, who was 26 years old and married at the time. Ms. Dylan was just 15.
According to the complaint, the assault occurred during the filming of an instructional basketball video featuring several Lakers players at the school’s gymnasium. Scott allegedly lured Ms. Dylan away from school faculty and students under the pretense of a campus tour, then forcibly sexually assaulted her in a janitor’s closet. Scott has since admitted the sexual contact, but claims he thought Ms. Dylan was 18.
Kerry Garvis Wright, a partner at Glaser Weil, chair of the Firm’s employment practice, and lead counsel for Ms. Dylan, told PEOPLE:
“This case is brought under Governor Newsom’s Child Victims Act, which allows survivors of child sexual assault to seek justice no matter how much time has passed. Hayley has courageously named Byron Scott for sexually assaulting her when she was just 15 years-old and Campbell Hall School for failing to protect her while on its campus. The assault has had an untold impact on Hayley’s life. By coming forward publicly, she hopes to empower other survivors to speak out and hold their abusers accountable.”
Wright was also quoted in the Daily Mail regarding the case.
Glaser Weil successfully obtained writ review with the Court of Appeal in the early stages of the lawsuit after the trial court declined to comply with the statute’s full provisions. The trial is currently scheduled for February 2026.
