Glaser Weil’s Jeff Joyner Quoted in ‘Law360’ on Supreme Court Case Involving TM Law’s Extraterritorial Reach

Glaser Weil Intellectual Property Partner Jeff Joyner was interviewed by Law360 for a piece titled “What To Know About High Court Fight Over TM Law’s Reach” regarding a Supreme Court case challenging the extraterritoriality of the Lanham Act’s trademark law by a former European partner of Hetronic International Inc., a U.S.-based manufacturer of remote controls.

Joyner questioned whether absolute U.S. sales numbers instead of percentages should be the extraterritorial determinant, and regardless, said the focus is “to prevent consumer confusion and protect mark owners from those who trade on and harm their goodwill, both of which are implicated by petitioners’ conduct.”

Joyner has successfully protected and litigated key IP assets for over 25 years. In addition to his focus on IP, Joyner serves as a trusted advisor and outside general counsel to Fortune 100 companies, entrepreneurs, investment funds and high-net-worth individuals on a variety of matters. His broad legal acumen allows Joyner to address the universe of his clients’ legal and strategic business decisions.
