Doug Luther is an Associate in the firm’s Litigation Department. With significant litigation and trial experience in state and federal courts as well as in arbitration and administrative proceedings, he focuses his practice on business, franchise, and real estate litigation.
On behalf of plaintiffs, he has obtained verdicts, pre-trial judgments and settlements amounting to more than $20 million. Representing corporate and individual defendants, Mr. Luther has achieved verdicts, pre-trial judgments, and settlements successfully defending against claims exceeding tens of millions of dollars. He has dealt with litigating contract disputes, fraud claims, claims against third parties for interfering with contracts or prospective business, franchise statutes, real estate disputes (commercial, residential, trespass, nuisance, eminent domain, RLUIPA), trademark infringement, trade dress, trade secrets, defamation, partnership disputes, and unfair competition claims.
Mr. Luther has particular expertise in franchise law. He has represented dozens of franchisors and franchisees in litigation. He regularly advises and assists franchisors in complying with franchise statutes and regulations. Mr. Luther currently serves on the Franchise Law Committee for the California Lawyers Association (2017-2019), has been published by the Franchise Law Journal and co-authored the California chapter of the upcoming ABA Forum on Franchising's Franchise Desk book. He was also recognized as a 2018 Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Star and as a 2018 Legal Eagle by the Franchise Times
