Glaser Weil is pleased to announce that veteran litigator Michael Cypers has joined the Firm as partner. Based in Los Angeles for more than three decades, Mr. Cypers focuses on complex financial cases locally and nationally. His clients typically include participants in significant financial transactions, such as private equity firms, hedge funds and venture capitalists.
He has tried multiple cases involving financing, financial statements and fiduciary duty claims to juries and judges. Mr. Cypers is one of the few lawyers to have tried a class action case to a jury — a seven-month trial resulting in a complete defense verdict for his client. In 2010, his work on behalf of a private equity fund resulted in the rescission of an investment transaction and earned him a “Top High Impact Verdict” designation for trials in California from the Daily Journal. Mr. Cypers has extensive experience representing issuers, officers, directors and professionals before the Securities and Exchange Commission.
“Michael is our kind of trial lawyer: Practical, experienced and very good in trial,” said Partner Patricia Glaser, head of the Firm’s Litigation Department. “He has done a lot of work in the securities, financial and SEC areas, which are areas of strength for us.”
“We've known Michael a long time and admire him and his work,” added Managing Partner Peter Weil. “He is a perfect fit here and has brought a nice portfolio of clients and matters, both litigation and transactional. We believe Glaser Weil will be an outstanding platform for his financial litigation practice and an opportunity for us to build upon our solid foundation in this area.”
Mr. Cypers earned his law degree from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, where he also was an adjunct professor for more than 10 years, teaching seminars on securities litigation, corporate governance and advanced civil litigation.
