Noah Perch-Ahern, a Partner in Glaser Weil’s Environmental and Energy Practice, will be leading an Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) “Legal Quick Hit” on September 14, 2017 for its Small Law Department Committee. This presentation, “Strict Liability Based on Owning or Operating Property: What Every Company Needs to Know about Environmental Law,” will provide an overview of:
- Liability under environmental law based on owning and operating property;
- Fundamental aspects of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA);
- How CERCLA broadly affects all parties that own or lease property; and
- Contractual allocation of environmental liabilities in contracts, such as purchase agreements and leases.
Mr. Perch-Ahern maintains a broad national environmental and energy practice and is often engaged to work on cases of first impression and other sharply disputed matters. He counsels clients concerning all of the major federal environmental statutes, including CERCLA, RCRA, the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act and NEPA, and has also advised clients concerning various state environmental statutes and regulations around the country, including regulatory programs related to climate change and cap-and-trade, coastal regulations, Brownfield laws, and water rights. Mr. Perch-Ahern maintains active leadership positions in a number of water, energy and environmental associations. He is the President of the Young Professionals in Energy (YPE) Los Angeles, sits on the Board of Trustees for the Southern California Water Committee (SCWC), is a member of the Board of Directors for TreePeople and the Valley Industry and Commerce Association (VICA), serves as Co-Chair of VICA’s Environmental, Energy and Utilities Committee, and is Co-Chair of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce’s Water, Energy & Environmental Sustainability Council.
