Real Estate
  • Representing a local government entity in connection with claims against an adjoining landowner.  Mr. Allan was the principal negotiator and architect of a complex settlement involving more than 20 different parties including a defendant in bankruptcy, the trustee of that defendant's chapter 7 bankruptcy estate, and the administrator of two defendants' probate estates.
  • Represented large well-known oil companies in different suits brought over the past five years to determine who will pay for the cleanup of contaminated real property located in Central California.

Environment
  • Representing one of the largest chapter 11 debtors in the State of California in prosecution on numerous actions against its insurers with respect to environmentally contaminated properties owned in central California. 
  • Currently representing the trust department of a large bank in resolving environmental remediation issues for properties being managed by the bank.
  • Representing large hotel developer in resolving air permitting issues for one of the largest hotel developments in the world.
  • Representing drum recycling company accused of criminal conduct and exposed to civil statutory penalties in violating environmental laws.

Utilities
  • Twice represented separate regulated water utilities accused of delivering contaminated drinking water.
  • Represented water utility in cost recovery action against polluters for reimbursement of costs associated with cleaning up groundwater basin.
  • Currently representing water utility in arbitration proceedings brought to enforce environmental cleanup obligations relating to groundwater pumping and plume control.
  • Representing separate water utilities twice in obtaining insurance coverage for CERCLA lawsuit brought based on allegations that pumping activity moved groundwater plume, including a current representation.

Insurance
  • Representing insurance company in subrogation action seeking cost recovery from the United States Department of Defense.
  • Represented insurance company in seeking contribution from other insurers in connection with food contamination claim against insured.
