Steve Freeman is head of Glaser Weil’s Insurance Department, and focuses his practice on coverage issues related to title insurance policies, as well as entertainment and liability insurance.

Mr. Freeman, who is of counsel, has prepared hundreds of coverage opinions, engaged in inter-insurance company litigations and participated in dozens of mediations representing his insurer clients against other insurers, or against plaintiffs seeking damages on account of an insured's conduct.

Mr. Freeman began his legal career as a Los Angeles County Deputy Public Defender and tried more than 10 jury cases and numerous other court cases.  He also tried and participated in the appeal of a precedent-setting juvenile court case that established a juvenile's right to appellate counsel, to free transcripts on appeal and to be informed of the charges in advance of trial.

Mr. Freeman received his law degree from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law and obtained his master’s of business administration from the University of California, Los Angeles Anderson School of Business.

    • Represented title insurer’s interests under a billion dollar policy in a casino’s bankruptcy with allegations of a fraudulent transfer when there had been a leveraged buyout.

    • Represented title insurer’s interests under a billion dollar policy in a builder’s bankruptcy with allegations of a fraudulent transfer.

    • Represented title insurer’s interest in dozens of mechanic’s lien cases filed throughout the United States.

    • Represented numerous insureds in entertainment and manufacturing industries in coverage disputes with their insurers.

    • Defended a director of a failed bank in a lawsuit by the FDIC.

    • Litigated a $500 million dollar entertainment industry dispute.

    • Handled law and motion and appellate matters in several large-development construction defect actions.

    • Obtained summary judgment in a 10-year-old case and prevailed through several appeals, eventually collecting more than $1 million in attorney fees for his insurer clients.
