Robert Hertzberg is Of Counsel to the Firm. Mr. Hertzberg is currently a California State Senator representing nearly 1 million people in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, and is the former Speaker of California State Assembly, twice unanimously elected in 2000 and 2002. As a practicing lawyer for 35 years, Mr. Hertzberg has a deep range of experience from an extensive civil litigation background, to guiding sophisticated real estate transactions, to his most recent work as an equity partner in a global law firm representing foreign and domestic companies on complex issues relating to governmental affairs.

As a legislator, the Los Angeles Times said this about Mr. Hertzberg:  “He is a high-velocity wonk; he loves big ideas and will flesh out every one of them if you give him a chance.” The Daily News has said: “Hertzberg has a relentless dedication and indefatigable energy; he has a reputation for integrity and perseverance.”

Mr. Hertzberg  has extensive experience with a number of private companies in the clean tech space, which has earned him international recognition by the World Bank for a project in Rwanda, recognition by MSNBC, as a Low Carbon Pioneer at Davos, and as one of the 50 People who Could Save the World, by the Guardian Magazine in the UK. In 2005, a solar company co-founded by Mr. Hertzberg won the Wall Street Journal Innovation of the Year Award, in the field of energy.

Mr. Hertzberg served as Chair of Mayor Antonio Villariagosa’s Transition Team in 2005 and served on the transition team of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2003.  He also served as co-chair of the transition teams for Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich in 2009, and Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer in 2013.

Mr. Hertzberg currently serves on many community boards, including, The Price School of Public Policy at USC, The Board of Visitors at the Public Policy School at Pepperdine, as well as a member of the Board of Directors at the Rose Institute of State and Local Government at CMC, and as a member of the Board of the Schwarzenegger Institute for State and Global Policy at the University of Southern California.  Mr. Hertzberg has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles World Affairs Council, The Center for Governmental Studies, Town Hall of Los Angeles, The Southern California Leadership Council, twice as Chairman of the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation (2004 and 2011), as well as a member of the Board of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, among others. Mr. Hertzberg is an honorary member of the Board of the National Speakers Conference, the organization of the 50 state legislative speakers, and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.  The Los Angeles Times recognized him as “One of the Most Influential People in Southern California.”
