Joshua Roth is a member of Glaser Weil’s Los Angeles based Corporate Department and Chair of the Art Law Department.  As an attorney, Mr. Roth's unique law practice is guided by his broad background in general business transactional work with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and extensive corporate governance representation with a focus in art and entertainment matters.

As a corporate lawyer, Mr. Roth has represented numerous public and private companies - including emerging growth and middle market companies - on both buy-side and sell-side transactions across a wide range of industries, including financial services, television/cable, e-commerce, manufacturing, fashion and apparel, and environmental/recycling. He also advises private equity firms, individual investors and others.

Mr. Roth has substantial experience as an art law attorney in transactions and understands the issues that those in the art world care about most.  He represents a broad range of clients and counts artists, museums, art dealers, private collectors among those he's counseled on fine art transactions through California and the entire United States as well as Europe, and Asia.  He regularly engages in transactions such as:

• Structuring consignment agreements, third party guarantees and other significant financial arrangements with major auction houses
• Structuring loans secured by fine art and other collectibles
• Counseling individual, corporate and other institutional investors on partnership agreements and other business entities related to art acquisition
• Drafting of purchase and sales agreements for both domestic and international transactions
• Extensive estate, gift and tax planning for artists and collectors including Internal Revenue Code Section 1031 exchanges involving works of art and other personal property
• Exhibition and sponsorship agreements
• Licensing and merchandising agreements related to fine art editions and high-end luxury products for the consumer market
• Negotiating multi-million dollar sales and purchases by museums, collectors and dealers, and addressing related sales and use tax issues.
• Advising clients with insurance claims arising for any reason, including damage, theft and valuation related issues
• Advising artists and collectors on the creation of private foundations and other non-profit entities

Mr. Roth also provides strategic counsel on all types of copyright-related issues with relation to artists.
